Strong aptitude for combining intellectual competences with the ability to develop practical solutions and to implement fieldwork

PROGES has an efficient and effective technical and operational structure, which avail from and capitalize on its wide multi-disciplinary network of scientific institutions, NGOs and individual experts operating in a broad range of thematic fields pursuing quantitative and integrated approaches. This network enables PROGES to translate know-how into locally contextualized how-to, an ability to customize methods quickly and efficiently and, in doing so, maximize the most from time, resources and expertise.

Outstanding experience in international development projects

Almost of the projects implemented by PROGES since its establishment in 2002 were international development endeavours executed in a wide geographical and cultural context across the globe: Africa (Kenya, Limpopo River Basin, Mozambique, South Africa, Zimbabwe); Caribbean (Dominican Republic, Caribbean Netherlands); East Asia (Nepal); Europe (Albania, Italy); Latin America (Brazil, Ecuador, Peru); North Africa and Middle East (Egypt, Jordan, Yemen, Lebanon, Tunisia); Pacific (Papua New Guinea, Samoa).

Knowledge and data integration across thematic scopes, spatial scales, and time frameworks

The effective integration of knowledge of experts on different thematic sectors, as well as of related GIS and tabular data is key for the success of strategic planning, management and monitoring applications. PROGES has thus developed a unique capacity in this respect and has developed a specific package including analytical methods/protocols and software tools named Integrated Spatial Planning (ISP). This package allows the easy and effective integration of knowledge and data across thematic sectors as well as spatial and time scales. ISP software tools enables the retrieval of datasets from two inter-linked GIS and tabular databases and the effective real-time analysis of their spatial distribution and time trends through a high number of indicators via a multi-windows and user-friendly interface. The software also allows the compilation of data-aware advanced reports. In 2016 the PROGES software ISP has been recognized by the United Nations Environment Program has “cutting-edge technology” for issuing a waiver for direct contracting according to United Nations procurement rules.

Development and use of planning, management and monitoring indicators

PROGES has implemented many projects focusing the development and use of a high number of quantitative indicators integrated in a consistent spatial planning, management and monitoring framework.

Management of spatial data and preparation of GIS maps

Working with spatial management indicators implies the extensive use of GIS data; PROGES has thus developed an outstanding experience in handling geo-referenced data, execute advanced geo-processing operation and preparation of GIS maps, including from satellite imagery data.

Management of tabular data and implementation of database application, including advanced querying

Same as for GIS maps, PROGES has been developing complex relational databases data management systems, including applications distributed over the internet web as well as smartphone Apps.
